CANCER FULL MOON: Terrestrial Artifact

“I expect to see the coming decades transform the planet into an art form; the new man, linked in a cosmic harmony that transcends time and space, will sensuously caress and mold and pattern every facet of the terrestrial artifact as if it were a work of art, and man himself will become an organic art form. There is a long road ahead, and the stars are only way stations, but we have begun the journey.”  – Marshall McLuhan, interview in Playboy

At a critical degree, nearly to the minute, this 29 degree 27 minute Cancer Moon is rising at the time of its opposition to the Sun, just before sunset on the U.S. East Coast. This double Cancer emphasis makes the power of the Divine Mother, projected from the Moon in its cycles, tangible. Energized by the Sun's light, the Lunar Goddess transforms into an agent of change as Uranus/Jupiter in Pisces pull her upward to a place (ninth house) of prominence in a flowing trine, directly overhead. Having now resurfaced on Earth, the face of the feminine divine is propelled into the collective consciousness (the yod to the Cancer Moon conjunct ascendent from Neptune/Chiron in Aquarius sextile the Mercury/Pluto in Capricorn) by the positive animus (Sun/Mars conjunction) into a seat of recognition (Seventh House of the public). The message here, as in the Mars ingress into Aquarius chart, is steady forward! The sixth house stellum which includes the North Node and the Mercury/Pluto conjunction, tells us the path onward and upward is steady-as-you-go. Step-by-step we arrive at our dream (Neptune in Aquarius conjunct Chiron in the eighth house) of becoming living, breathing embodiments of the Sacred Marriage! We are living the journey!

“Because the moon spins on its own axis in the identical time it takes to orbit the Earth, its lighted “near side” is always turned earthward, just as its perpetually dark “far side” is always turned away.  “Everyone is a moon,” wrote Mark Twain, “and has a dark side which he never shows to anybody.”  For alchemists, it is the task of the adept to navigate this uncharted territory of the soul, and bring it, so far as possible, into consciousness.  The dangers of undertaking are intrinsic to the allurements and the gravitational pull of Luna herself.  The adept can emerge from the far side of the psyche initiated into self-knowledge, or become irretrievably lost in the darkness.  Similarly, spiritual ravishment by the moon spirit can inspire to transformative heights or depths, or to vaporize the fantasies that draw the individual out of reality.  The lunar chill emanating from one’s own shadow can numb the soul.  (The Book of Symbols, p. 28)
